La Ferme merges the newest farming technologies with ancient agricultural practices to forge the farm of the future. We first visited this revolutionary farm on our 2016 tour, and met the man in charge: rock-star farmer Jean-Martin Fortier. This year we visit La Ferme’s new smaller property in the beautiful Charlevoix region. Farmer Mélanie Villemaire is the director at this striking property, which follows the Hemmingford model with varied vegetable production and lamb breeding on pasture. Guest chefs Sylvain and Emile cook the kind of locavore cuisine that celebrates the hard work of farmers like these. They may enjoy a night off from the restaurant but they’ll feel right at home – Faux Bergers sits inside a stunning farmhouse on a nearby sheep’s milk fromagerie.
