This past winter we made our way up a steep slope to one of Flowers’ estate vineyards to scout for an early summer event. As far as OITF sites go, it really doesn’t get any better than this. Wow, what a view! Joan and Walt Flowers pioneered the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay more than 25 years ago on these rugged coastal ridges of the extreme Sonoma Coast, where their estate vineyards rise to impressive elevations of 1,150 to 1,875 feet just two miles from the Pacific. A drive up to the vineyard is an opportunity to take in some of the West Coast’s most spectacular scenery. Chef Ryan Fancher will come out from his popular Healdsburg eatery to prepare a Sonoma-centric meal that matches the stunning surroundings. Barndiva’s motto says it all: “Wherever you are, eat the view.”
This event is off the beaten path, which makes for astounding views. If you plan to stay in the area, we recommend nearby Timber Cove Resort with its beautiful coastal accommodations.
