If you’ve ever taken the ferry to Governors Island in the summer, you know what a calm and charming respite it is. Get off the ferry and explore the island. You can walk or bike, but no cars allowed! On the south side of the island there is the Urban Farm site, home to GrowNYC's Teaching Garden and the NYC Compost Project hosted by Earth Matter's Compost Learning Center.

GrowNYC's Teaching Garden has an 8,000 square foot farm, growing a wide array of vegetables, herbs and fruits. GrowNYC is a non-profit dedicated to improving NYC through environmental programs, including greenmarkets, recycling programs, urban farms and education.
 
Earth Matter NY accepts and processes food waste as part of DSNY’s NYC Compost Project. Earth Matter NY Inc. is a nonprofit composting organization utilizing 40,000 square feet to educate visitors and process all organics generated on Governors Island and collected from NYC residents participating in farmer's markets food scrap drop offs.

OITF alumni John and Ryan will collaborate with the renowned Hooni Kim, of award winning restaurants Danji and Hanjan. The New York Times called Hooni "the city's leading interpreter of Korean cuisine" and we can't wait to see how he interprets Governor's Island. Our table will be set between the garden and an epic view of the water, the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
