Part of the reason chefs like to come out and stand in a field is that they don’t get to do it every day. A restaurant kitchen is great, but this is an adventure. Last year, the Outerlands kitchen crew took a break in the middle of prep, threw on their wetsuits and caught some waves. (We were on the beach at the Secret Sea Cove.) This year the crew will be away from the shore. Maybe they will join the mushroom hunt? Our last event of the season traditionally has a foraging walk. Last year it was scheduled a bit earlier than usual and there were zero mushrooms. The Pie Ranch barn is perfect for a late fall feast. Farmers Nancy Vail and Jared Lawson will share the inspiring story of their ongoing work to connect Bay Area youth with the farm. As this is the last event of the 2016 season, we will end by recognizing the hard work of our traveling crew.
