Host Farmers: Brett Grohsgal & Christine Bergmark, Even' Star Organic Farm, Lexington Park, MD (Washington, DC)
Guest Chef: Michael Rafidi, Washington, DC
Farming is an art and a science. Farmer Brett Grohsgal is a former chef with a Master’s degree in soil science, while Christine has advanced degrees in plant physiology and ecology, and helped shepherd southern Maryland agriculture from smoking crops (tobacco) to eating and drinking crops. Their 104-acre farm - mostly vegetables, fruits and flowers, and about 200 free-range egg-laying chickens - has the largest certified organic CSA in Maryland and is the largest winter-cropping farm north of Florida. Guest Chef Michael Rafidi was fairly recently at Michael Mina’s RN74 in San Francisco. He moved back to the DC area (where he grew up) and killed it in the farm kitchen at Even’ Star last year. We’re excited to be able to work with him on both coasts.
