This October 3rd, Chef John Besh and Chef Rene Bajeux will gather with area farmers, producers and other artisans of the table in the gardens of La Provence, in Lacombe, just outside New Orleans. This is Outstanding in the Field's second visit to New Orleans, still one of America's culinary and cultural capitals. As in 2006, our farm feast will benefit Parkway Partners, an organization that works to protect and nurture New Orleans green spaces, including replacing street trees uprooted by Hurricane Katrina. Chef John Besh won the 2006 James Beard award for Best Chef Southeast; made Runner-Up on Iron Chef; and was named one of the 10 best new chefs in America by Food & Wine Magazine. True to his Louisiana roots, Mr. Besh champions a renewed appreciation of local Cajun and Creole cooking.
Outstanding in the Field events feature a leisurely tour of the
hosting farm followed by a five course, farm-style dinner at our long table set in a scenic spot. Dinner is accompanied by a wine paired with each course. Diners are joined at the table by the farmer, food producers, a winemaker and other local artisans associated with the meal.
